Artist Statement

 

​    Anthony Ray Jimenez aka Rayji is a 1st generation Mexican-American artist based in San Diego, California. His practice ranges from short form animations, illustrations, painting to music. He often doesn't have a plan on what he creates, when he does, its carefully thought out. His work tackles many topics like social issues through the eyes of Chicanos in the USA, dipping into Meso-American futurism, learning from the past history as we look towards the future, personal experiences and feelings. Bright colors are used to highlight his complexity of the piece, an ohmage to his Mexican Heritage. The imagery is at times dark and weird, others are light-hearted, random, loud or calm depending on the mood.
